Height: Typically grows 6–8 feet tall (1.8–2.4 m) in the ground; shorter in pots
Spread: 5–6 feet wide (1.5–1.8 m)
Fruit: Produces full-size sweet bananas, usually within 10–24 months depending on conditions

Overview:
The Grand Nain banana is a fast-growing, productive variety known for its compact size and ability to fruit quickly in tropical to subtropical climates. It’s the commercial variety used by major growers (like Chiquita) and does well in Central Florida with proper care. Ideal for backyard orchards, edible landscapes, or large containers.

Light: Full sun is best—at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Water: Needs consistently moist soil, especially during hot weather. Water deeply and frequently, but ensure good drainage to avoid root rot.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Tolerates typical outdoor Florida humidity well.

Temperature: Thrives in 75–95°F. Protect from frost; plants may die back in cold but often recover from the base in spring.

Soil: Rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. Add compost or manure for best growth.

Fertilizer: Heavy feeder. Apply a high-potassium fertilizer monthly during the growing season. Supplemental nitrogen also supports leaf development.

Care Note: Remove suckers (pups) if you want a single strong trunk, or allow 1–2 pups to grow if you're cultivating a banana clump. Fruit typically appears on the main stem once in its life, after which that stem dies back.
